Casino Giant Caesars to Enter Indian Market

Hospitality and casino giant Caesars has plans to expand into the Indian subcontinent after recognizing the great potential for growth and success here. Essentially a gaming company based in Las Vegas, CEC (Caesars Entertainment Corp) entered the hospitality and entertainment business through Caesars Global Life. After setting up several luxury hotels, restaurants and other lifestyle establishments in many parts of the world, CEC is now looking at India.

With over 50 hotels, casinos and seven golf courses established under different brand names, CEC is now the third company planning to enter India. After MGM Mirage and Thunderbird Resort, Neera Chanani from Caesars Entertainment Hospitality sees amazing opportunities in India. Caesars is also planning to develop luxury hotels and resorts in many parts of South Asia under different brand names. It is presently not known whether Caesars will opt for equity or management deals.

Indian based Blue Coast Hotels signed two deals with MGM Mirage and Thunderbird Resorts, and the group is looking at potential projects in Daman. After acquiring a strong holding in Daman Hospitality, Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Delta Corp will set up the Thunderbird Resort and make it operational by the end of 2011.

Meanwhile back on the home ground, Caesars is still fighting for the legalization of online gambling in the United States. Gary Loveman, CEO of Caesars Entertainment expressed his desire in seeing online poker as a legal activity in the United States. After the Black Friday scandal involving many online poker sites like Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars, the United States legislation has made it more difficult for online poker sites to function.

Loveman believes that the Congress is willing to change the situation in favor of online gaming companies seeing the irony. All American citizens above the age of 21 are legally allowed to indulge in gambling but the gambling sites that provide gaming are restricted. CEC not only hopes, but also firmly believes that the government will take a more favorable decision.

This crackdown on many online casino sites has had an adverse effect on the industry. Loveman also believes that poker is a game of skill and that the Congress will recognize this. Loveman states two major advantages of legalizing online gambling. The creation of a regulated environment is needed in the online gambling community, and legalizing it will make sure that proper laws are developed and enforced. Another advantage would be the creation of thousands of jobs in the online gambling industry, something that the US needs urgently in view of the mounting unemployment rate.
