How To Play Blackjack

Blackjack is an extremely popular and widely played casino card game. It is a game of skill, as well as a game of chance and is widely operated by online casinos like Bulldog 777, Bwin, and Europa.

The game of Blackjack is played with a single pack of cards or sometimes several packs. Each card has specific points assigned to it. The cards from 2 to 10 have points based on their face value. Kings, Queens and Knaves have 10 points each. Aces have a value of 1 or 11, depending on how it benefits the player who has to play blackjack

The game involves two sides – the dealer on one side and a single player or multiple players on the other. The dealer initially draws two cards aiming to get a score of 21. The opponents are also drawn two cards with the same aim. But the total should not go over a value of 21. The opponent’s hand that goes over a value of 21 is declared a ‘bust’.

One of the cards belonging to the dealer is displayed face up for the players to see. If the player who begins the round has a total card value near 21, he stands up. In case he wants to get further close to 21, he requests a ‘hit’ and the dealer hands out an extra card to him. If the player has not ‘busted’, he can decide if he wants to ‘hit’ or ‘stand’. The game moves to the next player when the current player ‘busts’ or stands.

The dealer reveals his second card after all the players have completed the first round. He can go for a ‘hit’, if his total is less than 16. If it exceeds 17, he has to stay.

Each player who does not ‘bust’ wins, if the dealer ‘busts’. If the dealer does not ‘bust’, his hand is compared to each player’s hand. The hand that has the highest value gets double the amount he has placed as wager. In case of a tie, with both the dealer and the player who has the highest value in hand having the same score, the player gets his amount back, without any profit.

Getting a ‘blackjack’ is when either the player or the dealer gets a 21 with an Ace and a card having a value of 10, in the opening round. In case it is the player who gets it, he gets an amount which is one and a half times the original wager. If the dealer gets the blackjack, each player at the table loses. The game goes for a ‘push’ if the dealer and any one of the players get an initial blackjack.

Extra options for players

You have the following extra options during a blackjack hand:

Doubling down – The player can double his original bet after taking an extra card. He gets double the amount, if he wins.

Splitting – The player makes two separate hands, if he has two cards of the same value. The option is available only on the first two cards he gets in the initial round.

Doubling and splitting – Players can double down on selected split hands.

Surrender – Incase the dealer does not have a blackjack, players can surrender their hand and get back half the amount placed as bet. If they surrender before the dealer has checked for a blackjack, it is an ‘early surrender’.
